A person who has diabetes and is in this BMI level is eligible because the diabetes can make it incredibly hard for a person to lose weight or to be more susceptible to further weight loss. Those who have hypertension, which is a condition that deals with high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease or people who have sleep apnea can be eligible for bariatric surgery as well. This fat control surgery can also be used by people in this level who are suffering from degenerative joint diseases.
People who have tried various different methods of weight loss and have not been successful with any of them may be eligible for this fat control surgery too. Full documentation of efforts with diet aids, behavioral changes and exercise programs will be needed for a person like this to be eligible to qualify for bariatric surgery. This is also the case for those who have taken weight loss drugs that have not worked for them.

A person who is looking into getting this type of surgery will need to be certain qualifications including having a body mass index of a certain level and in many cases having other medical conditions.
